U20s International comes to Wests
The Wellington footballing community were treated to an U20s international on Sunday 24th May.
The home of Western Suburbs, Endeavour Park, played host to an U20s World Cup warm-up match between Panama and Uzbekistan as part of their preparations for the FIFA U20 World Cup.
Warm sunny weather and a large crowd welcomed the teams to Porirua. Panama took a 2-0 lead before Uzbekistan pulled one back from the penalty spot before half-time. Uzbekistan scored the only goal of the second half to finish the game 2-2.
Uzbekistan now move to Christchurch where they have two Group games, against Honduras and Germany, before travelling to Northland to take on Fiji.
Panama stay in Wellington for two of their three Group B games, against Argentina and Austria.
There are plenty more opportunities to watch teams prepare for their World Cup campaigns in Wellington. As you may have seen, Endeavour Park is an official training ground with Argentina, Austria, Ghana and Panama scheduled to train in the coming weeks. A full schedule for all Wellington training grounds is available here.
Good luck to the Junior All Whites, which includes Wests 1st teamer Noah Billingsley and former Wests players, Alex Rufer, Cory Brown and Jessie Edge.
