Titan's Douglas Villa victory

The 11th grade Titans continued their dominance at the recent Douglas Villa tournament.

Their pool for the day consisted of the top three teams in Wellington so it was always going to be a tough day. Added to this the withdrawal of one of the Titans on the day meant they were understrength but ready to get on with it.

Through the pool games the Titans beat Lower Hutt and Miramar both 1-0. These two teams are always great opponents and have some very talented players.

In the semi-finals the Titans played our very own Western Suburb Rangers with the Titans coming away 4-0 victors and on to the final against Petone.

By now the Titans were starting to show signs of being battered, bruised and very tired after the previous 6 games. The Titans dug deep and found themselves up 2-0 before Petone pulled one back before half time. With less than 2 minutes to go and many of the Titans nearly at a standstill Petone got the equaliser and sent the game in to ten minutes of extra time.

With the game still locked at 2-2 the final was decided on a penalty shootout. After the mandatory 5 penalties the score was 3-3 with Ethan Kedzlie performing some heroics in goal. So into sudden death and Jacob Wyness stepped up and coolly slotted his penalty. That left Petone needing to score to stay in it. Once again Ethan Kedzlie threw himself full stretch to push the ball on to the post and the title was the Titans once again.
A fantastic effort and the Titans thoroughly earned their trophy.
