Happy New Year !!!
Believe it or not we are back in to it again for another season!! The board at Wests have been busy over the summer months and 2016 could possibly be our biggest season yet. There has been lots happening and a lot more to come so here is an outline of what we have been doing and some of the upcoming events at Wests this year:
Goodbye Jo……………yes hard to believe but our club administrator Jo Sweeney has resigned from the position to pursue other interests. Over the last three years Jo has been the first point of contact for most of you at the club and has been fantastic in organising everything at Wests. All is not lost as Jo will still be heavily involved in the club but on a volunteer basis. I’m sure you will all join us in wishing Jo all the very best for the future and a big thank you for all she has done.
We welcome Michelle Deller who has been appointed as the new Club Administrator. Michelle is excited to be back and involved in the club and looks forward to working with you all.
New season dates……….the 2016 football season kicks off on the 2/3rd April for all senior and junior grades. Mighty midgets will be later in April at Endeavour Park. Last year there were many disruptions at Endeavour Park because of the FIFA U20 world cup training sessions. This year we are back to normal and will have full use of our facilities.
Registration dates…… will be held on February 9/10th at Endeavour Park Clubrooms from 6.00-8.00pm and February 11th at the Whitby Co-Op from 6.00-8.00pm. Online registrations will be open shortly via the following link http://www.westernsuburbs.co.nz/about-us/registrations
2016 Subscriptions……recently capital Football held there end of season review and 2016 planning meeting. A main topic of interest were subscriptions for the 2016 season. Both Football NZ and Capital Football have increased their fees across the board to all levels and abilities of players. The board at Wests have discussed this and decided that for the 2016 season we will freeze our subscriptions and they will remain the same as 2015.
'If you have outstanding 2015 subscriptions owing to the club please ensure you contact our club administrator and get these paid before the new season starts. The club will not release any players to other clubs if outstanding debts are unpaid.'
Wests End Of Season Golf Day……held in early December at the Pauatahanui Golf Club a field of 60 players enjoyed a great day out followed by prize giving and dinner back at Endeavour Park. The day was a lot of fun and there have been requests to hold another tournament pre-season this year so look out for that. The winning team in the ambrose format were a dodgy bunch of football coaches from Ole who’s team were named “Kiwi wannabes”. The dinner and prize giving coincided with our junior football coaches end of season BBQ.
2016 Womens football…………..this season will see a big leap in the number of females playing football at Wests. The women’s committee have been busy putting things in place for the new season and from 2015 where we had one team ….2016 we will have three or possibly four teams. We will have our first team, possibly a reserve team, an U18 side and then a social “mums” team. Kirk McPherson our women’s first team coach has been putting together a good squad as we push for promotion to Women’s Central League 2017. We would also like to welcome Bryan Rawiri to the women’s committee. Bryan has a wealth of experience in girl’s age grade football and will be helping develop our female players along with Ed Oosterwijck who has been the back bone of Wests girls football over recent years. If you would like to know more about women’s football contact Liz Oliver at email@example.com. Come on all you mums….how about joining in the social women’s team for this season!!!!!!!!!
We would like to announce Te Rauparaha Arena have come on board as a major sponsor for the club…particularly for the women’s team. In our push to gain promotion this year the girls will be doing their preseason strength and conditioning at Te Rauparaha Arena. Very soon we will be able to offer all Wests members great deals on joining the leading fitness centre in Porirua.
National League Bid…..as you would have heard through the media Wests applied for one of the three remaining national League licenses for the new 2016/17 National League. On this occasion we were unsuccessful but Football NZ were so impressed with Wests as a club and the overall player programme we have in place that they wish to meet with the board late January and explain what final “tweaks” need to be made when we reapply in two year’s time. The board at Wests would like to thank Pete Gillespie, Ben Sippola and Steve Dunn for their efforts in putting our proposal together and presenting it to Football NZ.
Summer training………. over summer many of our junior players have continued their development participating in the Ole football summer programme. Ole are big supporters of Wests and our partnership continues to grow and gain strength in the local and national football scene.
